plant based benefits: lowered cholesterol

Lowered cholesterol can be a HUGE benefit from eating a plant forward diet, and it’s not talked about very often!⁠ But what the heck is cholesterol even and why is it such a big deal? It’s primarily used as a structural component in cell membranes and to produce hormones like estrogen and testosterone. Cholesterol is NOT an essential nutrient, meaning our bodies can make the cholesterol we need.

A plant-based diet is high in fiber which binds to cholesterol, removing it from our blood. There is currently some controversy over the impact of dietary cholesterol intake on our blood cholesterol levels, but keep in mind that many sources of cholesterol are also packed with saturated fat, a known risk factor of cardiovascular disease. That all being said, here are some ways YOU can lower your cholesterol.
