perfectionism: a barrier to success

Perfectionism can sometimes be a good thing. Having high standards for the quality of work you do often helps you climb that corporate ladder or master a new skill. But it can also be your biggest downfall. Setting impossible standards for yourself is a recipe for failure. And what perfectionist likes to fail?

I used to tell myself that I had to read a little more on the subject or watch just one more youtube video and I’d be ready but of course, “ready” never came. Does this sound like you? Take that action friend. Take that first step. You’ve got this! Imperfect action is better than sitting back doing nothing. We learn from our mistakes and it’s the small steps we take that get us to where we want to be, however messy that journey might look. I’m continuing to work on taking action versus trying to do something perfectly. And who would’ve guessed, I’m making more progress this way! Now it’s your turn.

Stop waiting for the “right time”.

  • You don’t have to be a gourmet chef to prepare your own meals at home
  • You don’t have to be an elite athlete to set foot in a gym
  • You don’t have to know everything about a whole food plant-based diet to make healthy changes
  • You don’t have to change everything at the same time. Pick your priorities and focus on one thing at a time. Is it meal prep? Is it your exercise routine? Is it getting better about hydration? You, the perfectionist, probably have a lot of goals for yourself but it’s impossible to focus on all of them at once. Prioritize, then tackle them individually.

Eating more plants can come with its challenges. There’s a lot of nutrition noise out there, everyone has an opinion, and it can be confusing to figure out what works best for YOU. Working through these challenges and learning how to easily incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet and lifestyle can be helpful. Working with a plant-based dietitian to guide you through your unique journey and surrounding yourself with other like-minded people who are on a similar journey can be monumental. When you join my nutrition coaching program, you’ll get a highly customized, one-on-one experience to help you confidently and sustainably eat foods that taste good and make you feel good.
