Self-care is important, probably now more than ever. In the state the world is in right now, feelings like anxiety and depression can hit hard. Motivation to do workouts without access to a gym might not be there and snacking is often one of the first things we turn to for comfort. So maybe you aren’t feeling your best. Maybe you’re having a tough time financially if you’ve lost your job, but it’s important to keep loving yourself through it all. Here are 14 ideas on how you can do that:
Allow yourself to relax and give yourself downtime without distraction
Practice being present with yourself, with others, and/or with nature
Understand your strengths and don’t be afraid to use them
Be honest with yourself and with others
Understand you’re human and you’re going to make mistakes. Imperfections are okay! And forgiving yourself goes a long way
Embrace your authentic self and understand not everyone’s going to like you and that’s okay, it’s actually fantastic!
Prioritize fun! Plan for it and make it happen.
Continuously pursue what you believe, value, and enjoy
Identify what you’re grateful for daily. Even better, use a journal for this!
Allow yourself to feel feelings and express your feelings
Find a hobby that brings you joy
Speak kindly and positively to yourself, like right now
Say “no.” Boundaries are an essential form of self-care. Don’t stretch yourself too thin by saying yes to everything and everyone.
Surround yourself with people who empower you and treat you with kindness and respect
